From what I've heard in numberous cars they are not worth $499 retail. Hybrid Audio Technologies has their Imagine line starting at $209 + tax. H.A.T also has their Clarus components at $ par with the C5 and they are hands down the better set.

Here is an online website for research, but if you are looking to buy, contact Don at www.CentralStationcustoms.com and save some tax.

The tweeter is the best of the JL line. Not too harsh but not too soft. Most people shy away from the ZR tweeters because of this.

It's a steal at 250.00! I have't heard the H.A.T.s, so can't comment. I've hear the JLs a few times in different cars and they have always sounded very good. The build quality is second to none, and I haven't heard of any reliability issues. Definitely go for it.

inspect with a magnifying glass...look for serial numbers, glue joints, poor fit and finish, shiny screw holes, chips etc...JLs are very well built and rarely (I've never seen any) have any noticeable defects. If you're not familiar with them, go to visions and inspect the JLs there to see what they should look like and how the serial numbers and cosmetics should look.

I run the C5 components in my car. Before that I was using Rockford Fosgate, old school stuff. The C5's sound very nice and their soft dowm tweeters are some of the best I've heard. C5 components also come with a higher quality crossover compared to the C2's. Haven't had any issues with these speakers at all. Though they are rated at 75w RMS, I put 150 to them, carefully. At first they were powered by a 75w/ch amp and they purred with ease. Got mine for under $300 shipped to my door all inclusive. Local shop wants $539 plus taxes.
