Looking for new car tweeters(SQ)
Hey, guys! I am toying with an idea to get a new set of tweeters to replace CDT DRT-26 in my CDT component set to match up with M6 Mids. They will go in stock locations in 2000 VW Golf. Here are some of the requirements I could think of:
1"(not sure if anything bigger will fit), 4-ohm, will be crossed at 3.7khz, around 100 wrms or more, I prefer brighter sound(eg. aluminum), I listen to house/trance, off-axis, around 90db sensitivity, neo magnet, budget around $200 or so, loud and clean, gonna give comps 160 wrms/side.
I hope I can get something really nice. I've looked at Solen, Madisound, Partsexpress, etc for brands like LPG, Vifa, Seas, etc, and really got curious about LPG 26NA due to nice reviews and price, but I could not find any 4-ohm tweeters. It seems, I may have to go the rebadged route, unless someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance

Don't worry about 8ohms. why would it bother you with a tweet? I can see maybe midbass, but i mean...
Used to have LPGs, mind you had silks, but my buddy had aluminums all the time, so we could compare, they both have a wonderful top sparkle. Your cross over point is a bit of an issue with LPGs, i mean they sound better with higher, i mean 4,5k is more like it, even 6ish is better. Point is they are better in a 3way setup. They get very harsh down low, especially if you crank it. Even with higher xover point they still beat up your ears like a drunken wife abuser. The alums we noticed sounded very nice with triangles and other instruments, while silks were more real for vocals.
It's def a great budget tweeter with its characteristics.
I was itching to get seas neo alums all the time, but ended up with a set of rainbow cal26s i scored for about $220 shipped, otherwise i probably wouldn't buy them. i mean they sound nice and arent as annoying as LPGs.
Also, John (fozzz) has vifa xt25s in his car, I didn't listen to them for hours, but they are def nice and didn't give me any bad taste.
point is you can buy a few sets of those diff tweeters and then have a listen yourself.

Thanks df.dima! Only thing bothers me about 8-ohm tweeters, that I will be using them with my current component set mids and crossovers, and from what I read online, crossover point apparently changes with different impedances. Not sure if it goes up or down, and I dont know if I may run into other unknown to me issues.
As for 4-ohm tweeters, I am now considering between these. A 1.25" tweeter from 2008 Alpine SPX17PRO set, 2008 1" CDT ES-010(6-ohm, and not sure what sort of rebadge this is), and 2008 1" Legatia L1 Pro(but I dont think they will fit in my stock locations).
If anyone can explain to me what would happen if I just swap my current tweets for 8 or 6 ohmers, I would appreciate it.
Thanks

I guess I do not have a good explanation on why not active - just not ready I think. Here is an update:
I think I may not be able to get Alpines out of a set, Legatias won't fit in stock locations - so they are both pretty much out. I have my choices down to CDT ES-010(6-ohm, unless a typo), and still don't know what rebadges they are, if any, or a set of 4-ohm Seas 27TAFNC/G. Are these the Seas you always wanted to try out, df.dima?

Passive XO's don't necessarely only xover, they might have built in filters that attenuate or peak depending on the limitations of the speaker that xover is mated to. Might not be getting the best results going that way with a do it yourself type tweeter.
