I was considering small sealed enclosures for my ID cxs5 drivers (gotta get them back from ID first though.. they are taking their sweet time replacing them).
ID recommended some enclosure volumes for these drivers, and stated that they 'increase the excursion limited power handling, and provide better midbass performance'.. Should I be considering this? I should be able go glass up a small enclosure behind my kick panels.. Think its worth it? Does anyone have experience with this type of driver under these conditions? |
Vent them into your carpet.

Hey Tom expand on that 1 please. I have enclosers/ pods for my mid drivers I was thinking of fiberfilling them. Venting never came up.

My kicks are enclosed, or sealed if you will. I know you dont have to enclose mids, I believe its a personal preference but thats just me.

contact image dynamics for their recommended optimal enclosure, nobody will know better than the manufacturer as they will have tested the speakers more than anyone in every possible alignment and will be able to tell you the best one

IF you can build the enclosure large enough so that your lower frequencies don't suffer, then that's the best way to go. However, many people have found that they cannot get enough volume and that their lower end suffers because of it. One solution is allowing the enclosure to "breath" off the back end into the carpet. You have to experiment with this to see what works. One such way is to drill a few 3/4" holes, listen and then drill somoe more or fill some up and so forth until you get the desired result. The other thing to remember is that PLD's are critical in the lower frequency range, but because you're going in kicks, you're half way there. Also lower vocals and midbass are the hardest part of the frequency spectrum to nail in a car because of cancelations, reflections, etc, etc in the foot well area.
