Even with 100% CD quality in the ipod, sometimes the recording just sucks. I've got some Bob Seger and I don't know who he hired for engineering on his Greatest Hits album but it's very quiet and has a lot of background noise.

Another album is from a band called Moist, good quality sound but on many tracks you can hear a guy coughing (take a sick day buddy!). I never heard the coughing until I put the Lossless quality on my ipod, ran it through the 24bit burbrown DAC and then through amped after market speakers.

The better speakers you have the more you will hear, Pretty simple.

With my Morel speakers it seems I can hear everything, And a lot of stuff sounds like garbage because of the mixing on some albums and also MP3's.

 

I can not comment on the MP3 download as I dont use MP3, I stick with CD for now. Imprint is pricey and frankly has never really seemed to do what it is supposed to do, so I would counsel against it (others have disagreed so to each his own). As for hearing distortion... it could be a low quality download, a crappy recording, or your HU amp clipping as it tries to satisfy your SPL needs.

Any distortion (that isnt in the track) will be gone.

This is a definate before you go changing up all your files.
