Need Help Troubleshooting

Hello All,

I have a Clarion CZ102 Head unit which I installed about a month and a half ago. Everything was working great until a couple of days ago. What happens is this, when I try to turn the volume up past about half volume(24 out of a possible 40) I get distortion.

I tried to narrow it down by doing the following,

Issue occurs on both Radio and Aux port audio sources. If I adjust the speakers to only play from the front no problem. If I adjust to the Rear speakers issue still occuring. Now if I leave the volume and adjust to the left rear speaker slowly from the Centre position the issue goes away. But if I do the exact same by returning the balance to the Centre and adjust to the right speaker the issue disappers. The wierd thing is that this issue only occurs when the rear speakers are engaged and set to a Centred Balance.

I pulled the deck out and tried to wiggle the 8 speaker wires while the issue was occuring and it doesn't have any effect. I checked the wires at the head unit to make sure that the connections are properly isolated(covered) so as to elminate the wiring as the issue. I think it may be a speaker issue or the head unit.

Any thoughts on the topic are appreciated.

If you can, then try switching the speaker wire around, or even try one speaker at a time, fade balance etc... and see what happens.
