need reccommendations on speakers!!
yup, its me again. ok, well, i figure its time for a speaker upgrade. for fronts, i'll need 6.5" rounds, and for the rears i think theyre 4x6"? (standard new gm truck pillar speakers)
i plan to go with a 4 channel amp, something around 75-100W x 4 rms. so speakers in or around that power range would be ideal. im looking for good clear sound, under $400 for the works. so i just dont know what to go with. was looking at the alpine type s... and clarion too, but theyre pretty expensive. i donno, any good ideas??? |
My advice is to leave the rears stock and drop the whole wad on a decent component set for the front. Should be able to find something pretty nice for $400. Run the full 75x4 to the fronts.

cool, well i aleady have updated my speakers. got a set of $100 jbl rear speakers. the 6.5"s i put in kinda suck arse...
ok, so hows that work? run all 4 channels to the front? you mean just ditch the crossovers that come with the speakers and wire everything up independant off the amp? that would make sense, but wouldnt i have problems when i adjust the fade? well, i guess its all pretty adjustable, eh? or can i run 4 channels to the front by using rca splitters? just one set from the deck, split into 2 at the amp. hmmm, you guys got me thinkin now... :smokin: time to go shopping... ok, whatchu figures a good set to get? i guess for $400, anything i buy is gonna be pretty decent, eh? well, we'll see what i come up with. |
If its not too late , SLOW DOWN , take your time . Do some listening and some research first . It always ends up better that way .

well no, its not too late... its just that i have limited time to play with my toys, since my line of work requires me to be away from home for long periods of time. then im home for not nearly long enough :thumbsdow
but your right. i should check some stuff out first. should....... |
Buy an electronic crossover (like the one I have for sale) and use that on the front side, seperate the tweeters and mids for the front end with that

^ That Pioneer crossover he has is an excellent piece.

need more power
I'm going to jump in here, rather than start another new thread, because i'm also looking to upgrade 6.5 components for my doors.
I have MB Quart rce-216 and although they sound good at normal volume, they're just not good at high power. I want to crank it up a few notches. Currently, i'm running 125 wrms x 4, bi-amped. My amp will do 190 @ 2 ohm. Are there any 2-way 6.5" components that are 2 ohm and will take 200 rms? The other way i'm thinking would be modify door panels to fit 6x9's. I have 6x9's in the rear and they really crank with 380wrms each. |
i think clarion makes 2 ohm speakers... could be wrong though.
but yeah, went to town today to check out speakers... the alpine dealer of course reccommends the type x components, or the type r, for a lot less $$$. then the other dealer suggested his higher end jbl's, and worships his JL xr series coax components. anyone able to compare the alpine type X to the JL XR's? since they are currently my two top choices. i got to listen to the jl's, but not the X's... so, yeah... |
