Your amp is fairly large at 200w per channel (even though it is a Sony). Finding component speakers that can take this amount of power on a continous basis is hard to do. If you are blowing speakers, it is from a number of things.
1) excessive gain 2) way too much power 3) playing too long all of which produces excessive heat that the speakers voice coils cannot dissipate and then you have blown speakers. I suggest a good set of Morel speakers in the 6.75" component size, turn the gain down and play the system safely. If you want the system louder, add another set of speakers if space is of no concern. Here is a link to some really good component speakers to choose from. With your budget, look to the lower end of the spectrum here. http://www.morelhifi.com/products/mob_2way.html |
DLS UP6, easy to fit, awesome quality, get very loud without any distortion, crystal clear, silk dome tweeters (not harsh like many). When installed properly produce tremendous punchy clear bass. I have them crossed at 63hz off my deck's crossover. The can take up to 150wrms. I feed them 70-80wrms of clean power and couldn't be happier. BUT... I would get rid of that amp, never ever heard anything good about sony.
According to specs below this amp is not really meant to run speakers, since it only has a low pass filter. Seems like it's a sub amp.
