New 6x9s for midbass?
I recently bought a pair of 3-way coaxial Lightning Audio 6x9's to replace the factory rear deck speakers after recently swapping out the factory deck.
I needed some mid-bass that the factory speakers couldn't provide to blend in with my sub.
After installing them today, I'm not hearing an astounding difference between the stock speakers and the ones I just installed. Of course there's lower bass extension, but nothing spectacular.
I also had the option of choosing between JVC, Sony and Pioneer at the store.
The reason I chose the Lightning audio brand was because it had the lowest frequency response, and had the best RMS wattage without a peak power rating that was 5X higher than the RMS.
I believe the Sony's claimed 300W Peak with only 40W RMS, while the Pioneer claimed 250W Peak with 30W RMS.
50-60Hz area was the cutoff range for frequency response for those two.
I don't remember the JVCs, because I didn't even really bother with them at all.
The reason I chose the Lightning Audio brand was because they're a division of Rockford Fosgate, so I figured they can't be too bad, had a 75W RMS / 225W Peak rating and a frequency response down to 40Hz.
Do you guys think I would have been more impressed with the sound of one of the other brands/models I mentioned and should return what I got and exchange them?

Those aren't the specs that you should be looking at. Unfortunately the important T/S parameters (FS, QTS, XMAX) often aren't available.
If you can fit this, it would work very well. They have a low FS, higher FS, and healthy xmax.
Parts Express:Tang Band W69-1042J 6"x9" Subwoofer

I looked at all of those XMAX, FS, etc. specs for my sub.
This was just a quick pickup at the store for some mid-bass speakers, because I had a gap in my bass range.
The MTX amp I have doesn't have the option to change the crossover frequency from 80Hz, and my factory speakers weren't going that low so it left a gap.
I'm just wondering, if based on the selection I had, if I made the best choice.
I chose the ones I did, because it seemed like they were the only ones not overexaggerating their peak power at 5x or more of the RMS, like the Pinoeer 30W>250W and Sony 40W>300W.
They were 75W RMS with 225W Peak. Smelt like the least BS.

With the information given for 6x9's, it's very hard to tell by the specs which set of 6x9's will have the best midbass performance IB. Unfortunately it's trial and error. Perhaps you can go buy the other sets and try them all...then return the ones you don't like.

get some Eclipse SE8495, Frequency response 50Hz - 40Khz. I got them for $70 shipped from ebay. I have them crossed on my deck at about 60Hz, they play as loud as I crank it with no distortion whatsoever and quite good midbass.
I've used Alpine Type S before and they sounded kinda unnatural. Completely different story with the Eclipses.
