new kicks or leave existing

Here is my existing

Focal K2P100 - 4" & 1" in the kicks
Focal K2PKBE - 6.5" in the doors

I exploring the idea of moving the 6.5" to the kicks along with the 4" then move the 1" up to the dash.

I was wondering how big of a fiberglass enclosure the 4" will need and the 6.5" will need in separate chambers.

Thanks in advance and happy new years

Well I was in the opposite predicament and I had my focal 6.5" Driver in the kick with my 4" in the door and the tweeter up in the Dash area. The Kicks really didn't sound that great. The problem was the enclosure was too small. I sealed up the door and put the 6.5" there and it sounds much better and I put the 4" and tweeter in the kicks, sounds much better. If your worried about your sound stage being low just add a second set of tweets in the a pillar. Unless you have allot of room in your kicks then it's not really going to be a good idea. Not sure how much space you need but the more the better when you’re dealing with the kick area. Plus the bigger you make the kick the worse it is for foot placement and looks.

07 Honda FIT Manual Trans - The Door skins rattle like a SOB from hell. The outter, inner and door skin are dynamated. Next step is PL prem but thats being crazy

I can probably get up to 1/2 a cu.ft in an enclosure for the kicks. I'm not sure on how much to give the little 4"

I'm beginning the tweeter location(s) quest next week then the kicks are going to get pulled and fiberglass time!

I've seen other fabs where installers put fiberglass > dynamat > fiberglass > mdf dust > fiberglass in kicks and boxes - Just kind of curious why that is?

Anyways,

J

my suggestion is to try it all out first before you start building stuff. Pulling the tweeter away from the mid could make it worse. But putting the mid-bass driver in the kick could make the overall sound much better. Try it out first. One thing I had to do was cut the backing out. It sounded better but wasn't enough. Just to give my an idea here are how my kicks looked like.

good luck, let us know how it goes.

Don't worry to much about the space for your 4, is more important in the case of the 6.5...When I have 3 way I always take the 4 and the twet to the A pillar, like this and I will leave the 6.5 in the kick, you will win a lot in hi image Name: IM000002.jpg

Hey installer - Unfortunately my A-pillars are occupied with Air Bags and I can't get the A-pillars out with removing 90% of the dash! - so unfortunately A-pillar 4" are no a go! I wanted them in there in th first place put I was advised that safety is better then having a 4" Focal fly at your hear during a crash or if I decide to bump someones bumper!

Unless someone can come up with a way to put them in without affecting the existing airbags and mount them inside the glass section!

I love your A-Pillars

Come in!!!!!air bags????.......

lol....ok in this case, if you want to, you may take apart this panel (from A pillar), and see how deep the airbag goes, and then, you may cut it and do the tweeter pod in this place. But always working safe, and thinking in the job the air bag do, and trying not to get a missil, with your pod, I an accident case.
