New thread on Alpine CDA-9887
I'm actually looking to buy a new head unit, and alpine is among my consideration. Is it a motorized faceplate or fold down?
I'm having a hard time choosing, because I don't know if I should get something with a built-in navigation, or find a separate unit for the nav.

A don't perosnally like fold down hu's as it means costly repair if it does go down.. i have had bad luck with those...
Also if you wanted nav as a must... look into the garmin nuvi 350/360 i was very impressed wiht that unit.

If I was to buy a regular HU now, I would have to choose between Eclipse CD7000 on Ebay for aprx $270+, or Alpine 9887 for the same price. Cosmetics and car interior match would probably play the biggest role.

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I finally got around to picking up an Alpine 9887, and I am seriously impressed, although I haven't had time to really tinker and tune yet.
First off, the SQ is quite impressive right out of the box. I've had quite a few
Alpines over the years and had become disenchanted recently, although I'd been getting their lower end stuff. This unit may cost more, but man does it deliver, with a super flexible set up and a clean classy look.
More to come...

I agree... i think price point is not so bad... i remember when i got my pioneer 860 it cost an arm and a leg.... this one is cheaper and is one solid unit...
ONLY drawback i found being a pioneer user was the unuusal navigational buttons.. i.e the jog, esc, ent key...
either way great unit... i wish i was able to put it in my car :S

no kidding... but there really isn't anything to debate....
any deck will give reasonably flat response; and bit-rate is a non issue......... other features will make the difference and if you are using deck power alpine decks seem to make the most clean juice in my experience.....

I tuned my 9887 with the KTX-100eq last night..........wow.I only tuned it 2 way but man does it sound good.I was using the bass engine pro before, but could not get it to sound anywhere near as good.(even after 20+ hours of rta'ing and tuning)Im a believer, and cant wait to tune more cars.
