Im looking at replacing the speakers in my car and i am looking at 2 options.
1) Cdt's in the range of $300 (EF 61)
2) A nice set of JL XR653 3 ways.

what are your opinions of these

I have done a search but nothing really has any useful information.

Thanks ahead of time

BTW, the amp used to power them will most likely be a JBL 180.2 so they should have close to 100 watts each going to them

I'd try to find a DLS dealer, I've been happy with my DLS reference series comps since I got them

Hmmmmmmmm, General Chow's Chicken dish is better....

Two way is easier to setup "right". Three way is fun and a good way to get around problems "IF" you have such issues. It gives you more options to install the mid range in a "GOOD" location if you are hurting for space/depth/install skills....... and you plunk the midbass driver in the door (most of the time).

Okay, well i got the set of JL XR 3 ways for 250. The plan is that the 6.5 woofer is going into the factory 6x8 location using appropriate mounts. The 4"and the tweet will be set up in a kick pod type thing on my doors. Thanks for all your help

TomK 02-11-2005 08:12 PM

Mmmmmmmmmm, kick pod thing on your doors eh.....

I'll get pics up when im done, Shouldnt be too long. the reason i say kick panel/pod style is that they are called KICK for a reason so i figure if i mount them on the doors, reenforcing the doors with some glass, it should work out okay. Im not going for a super clean, really really good install here, im waiting for that until i get my Mark VIII. Its an intermediate step to test these out see how they work and play with them a bit.

HEHEHEHE I used to have door volcanoes... pain in the butt to get in and out, and the automotive service people were hard on the grills

I use the general’s chicken to judge a Chinese restaurant

Thats really close to how Mine are going to look (in my mind). The thing is, i have a big car and ive been watching people as they sit there, and it really doesnt get touched at all. This will probably change once i put speakers there though.
