punchy midbass

hi there. I would like more punch upfront, however I am not interested in a 3 way setup up front. I have 6 1/2 " components(kicker) and a 12' infinity reference sub in the trunk. I was thinking about putting an 8" infinity sub directlyinfront of my rear passenger seats(in the middle fireing forward and aiming towards the rear view mirror. I would cross these over at 200(maybe even 180) to not be able to localize them.....cross my 12"over at 80 and my upfront components at around 120. I don't think this will disrupt my image wich is decent now....the 8" in the middle would be in mono with 150 rms

what do you think aside from your opinion....I think the theory would sound great....infinity is priced right so it's good enough for me!

I have also noticed through my experience that drasticaly cutting 1k on my 7 band equalizor drasticaly improves sq and midbass..i listen mostly to rock/alternative

Do you have your front doors sound deadened? That would help quite a bit with the midbass. Which Kicker component set do you have installed?

I believe they are reference series....250$ new 6 years ago....I forget exactly sorry. my doors aren't deadened. however I will do so. I drive a honda accord and am under the impression that honda engineers them with sound resonation frequencies in mind. more so for road noise. I will however deaden them at some point. should be able to crossover at 100 then

thanks for that recommendation. much appreciated...I would replace them. but the midrange I enjoy however. they give a live feeling to what I listen to.

just the area surrounding the speaker?? I have seen 10"x10" sheets for that purpose. and if doing the entire door. is just covering the plastic the proper way or the door skin itself?

I listen to mostly rock/metal also, the midrange seemed to be decent for this. For Rap or Hip Hop it wouldn't be so good...

Glad I could help, I owned those speakers before .

You can do the full door for best performance if you want. Cover all the metal parts and apply it with a roller.

too bad, it is a good solution for your problem with inexpensive kicks

my impression is it will be 'localized' and it would negatively affect imaging. Doing what you suggest will improve midbass volume (if you use the right driver and the right amp it should add the dynamic slam you are looking for)
I have also noticed through my experience that drasticaly cutting 1k on my 7 band equalizor drasticaly improves sq and midbass..i listen mostly to rock/alternative
this could be any one of a number of things from reflections to glare from a fiber/ resin cone ringing to a hot overlap region in a crossover

once you get inside the door you will find that the Honda door resonates like a metal trash can (terrible) and several layers of dynamat (fatmat, rammat, second skin etc.) on the door and anywhere else that can parasitically vibrate and absorb the precious bass notes will be in order and that will significantly improve bass quality and quantity.

I deadened my doors with the same JL components in them before and after and the difference was night and day. Way more lower midbass without changing anything else.
Pic of the door....
