Hello, I am pretty new to forum. I`m from Brazil and on an brazilian forum there is a discussion about the use of rear speakers for SQ. Some guys say that one more set of speakers installed on rear side car is useless. Many other people say that is better to install speakers on rear side. I wish to hear what you think about that.

It can sure make your car louder.. but from an SQ stand point it isn't very ideal..

Part of your sound stage is now behind you which will change imaging... and interactions between speakers can cause group delay and mess with frequency response...

If someone wanted to put speakers in thier rear deck or whatever, Id stick to midbass which is non-directional and run the midrange/highs upfront..

Instead of buying rear fill speakers I would rather spend the extra cash on a nicer front stage.

The rear fill tends to more harm than good. Remember the surround speakers in a home stereo primarily provide special effects.

If used correctly they should be fine, but I haven’t been to a symphony, jazz club, opera, or rock concert where the artist was behind me. Typically they detract attention from the front stage and confuse the sound (cancellation nodes). So I would personally recommend against (but man it does make it louder, and louder is gooder)

Rear fill is as important as the passengers sitting there saying "what'd you say?" "turn it down, I can't hear you".

world champion and best of show this year at the usac finals used heavilly delayed rear speakers, beat the big guys, eldridge, biggs, brones etc/ me thinks there may be more to rear fill than what i used to think

I like to have a little rear fill for ambience.

It, when used properly, can add more of a sense of depth and width.

But like has been said before, audio is subjective to the listener.

I've been toying with the idea of a heavily delayed (10-15 mS) slightly reverberated rear fill, to create a sense of depth behind the listener.

Now keep in mind that my experince with TA is minimal at best and that's the way I like it but in my experince such as on my home audio reciever, the time delay only goes up to about 2-3 mS.

What kind of device can make such a heavy delay.....only thing I can think of that's like that is a BOSS,Digitek or similar delay pedal for guitars..BOSS makes one that has 30 SECONDS...not milliseconds, but seconds of delay time.

I've always been a fan of live recordings in a car...at a live recording, there may not be musicians behind you, but there's always people/spectators and resonance from anything else that's behind you....For a truely unique and accurate listening session, this must be heard or it just wouldn't be like actually being at the concert....and isn't that what this whole industry is about? The REPRODUCTION of a recording?
