Sealed mids in doors?

Hello
Do any of you have 6-7 inch mids in door with a sealed enclosure? what are the advantages? What mids and how are you building the box?
Just trying to get a general feeling for the subject.

sealing has advantages including 'fixing' performance (the speaker will perform in a predictable fashion and have a controlled lower end), it will protect the speaker from moisture damage
the disadvantages include limited low frequency response, clearance issues for the window, cost, a new higher resonance frequency (this may or may not be a big deal)

when you use a door the driver should have a high q value to work in a large enclosure, like a pioneer prs720 driver, now a low q driver wont work as well like a peerless 830883, so becarefull of the specs on driver and you should be ok.. i like both a door mount and a kick panel mount.. i have an issue with doors tho as they require tons of damping and customization to make the door look good sound good and not rattle or hum.. where as a kick panel might make your life easier and you can put the tweeter down there as well..

What volume is good for 6,5s in sealed kickpanels/door enclosure?

that would be a specification unique to each driver and is published by the manufacturer

^or figured with TS parameters?

My DLS Nobelium 6.5 Data sheet suggests .2Cuft or about 5.5 liters. That is big to make in the doors. I also did a Design using TS parameters in WinSDPro and considering that I high pass them at 80hz a .1 cuft box seem to work fine too.

see the plots.
box = 1 cuft simulate door panel -3db = 171 hz
box = .2 cuft DLS recommendation -3db = 159 hz
box =.1 cuft. my small box simulation -3db = -150 hz
one sees how the higher Q of the smaller box causes increased resonance frequency but reduces the -3db frequency. Interesting effect and honesty I was expecting a much lower -3db point for the 1 cubic foot box.

thanks everyone for all the replies

thanks for this. Can you tell me what the Qts/Qms/Qes of the PRS set is? I cant find it any where on the Pioneer site. just as a comparison from the Nobelium data sheet Qts=.32 Qes=.37 Qms=1.9 (yes weird Qts is less than Qms?)

ill do one better go to diymobile audio. com then click on car audio forum, go down to klippel reviews and driver specs. then scoll down to prs 720 review about 1/2 way down. thread by npdang, started 12/23/2009. there is another review in the members reviews and product comparisons section on page 2 closer to the bottom.. great read as well.. also they test the hybrid, hertz mille, peerless as well. good info.

Thanks! Some good reads! Pioneer has certainly done its homework with the PRS lineup!
