Setting for SQ, This is what I have so far
Hi all, trying to get my truck set up with some decent tunes. I spent a couple days running wires and cables and who knows what else but seems I have in place. I have a Premier 840MP HU (old but good) and I have run three sets of RCA's to two Rockford Fosgate amps. The 10 in woofers are on the Punch 400sx one to the rgt channel and one to the left. They are controlled by the HU RCA. The other amp is a Fosgate 4080 and the front channel will power the Soundstream 6.5" components and the rear a set of 6.5 alpines. Now my questions, I have an Alpine dividing network, is it necessary? I can control xovers at the amps or HU but the DN will give flexibility. On the subs should they be right/left channel or in parallel and bridge the amp? If I use the dividing network I would probably use it on the components so I could control frequencies more accurately. I just am not sure it is required. The Fosgates have a pass through feature but I choose not to use as it makes them non fading. Not sure if that was a mistake or not. I should mention I have a Pioneer DEQ9200 that I could also throw in the mix, just to complicate things. I know this is a long post but maybe someone can throw some advice my way.

The more things you have in the mix the more chance of noise, failure, etc. Your comps and coaxials only need a high pass. I would set the amp to 80hz high pass and then further use the deck crossover if needed. For the sub I would set the amp to 100-120hz low pass and use the deck crossover at a lower frequency to suit what you like.
Wiring for the subs depends on their impedance and what the amp will tolerate. If possible, I prefer a bridged mono configuration. |
they are punch 10 inch subs and punch 400sx I will look it up and see. What is the benefit to bridging? More power I assume? That is the way the manual looks like they are wired, although not clear.

Punch woofers can have single or dual voice coils in 4 or 8ohm variations.

single vc and 4ohms

OK, now that we have that confirmed, what exactly is your amp model number? 400sx is unfamiliar to me.

sorry I have one 400 s4 Trans ana and one 4080

You have a 400x4 and a 4080. Wanna sell em? :D I'd love to add them to my BBQ collection.
Anyway, both are 4channel amps so bridge channels 1&2 to one sub and channels 3&4 to the other sub. That will maximize the power from the amp for those subs. PM me if you want to move those amps ;) |
Your BBQ Collection? I am not sure if that is good or bad, I do have an old American made Sounstream 5 channel amp. All this stuff is oldies but pretty goodies.

Rockford amps from that timeframe were called BBQs because of their shape.
