Small Area, Big Sound
I'm trying to get the most outa my little '88 MR2 but have had little luck so far.
Atm I have an 8" CVR82 powered by an older 200watt amp in a sealed 1.2cubic foot sealed enclosure. I'm considering upgrading to a 12" RF P3 Shallow (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/product_details.asp?cat_id=4&series_id=31&family_i d=55&item_id=108285&locale=en_US&p_status=]Rockford Fosgate® - P3SD412) or an 12" Alpine SWS-1243D: (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=520&i=500SWS1243&tp=111]Alpine SWS-1243D Type-S 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com)
They will both work well in my sealed enclosure and I'm sure they'll out pound my current CVR but I'm currious as to how much better porting the enclosure would make them.
I'm aware the volume of the enclosure is slightly to small but stuffing it should make up for the 0.05 cubic foot shortage.
Also, is it nesicarry to vent into my cabin? The sub enclosure is located in my frunk (front trunk) and it would be quite difficult to achieve that.
thanks for any info

I and probably a lot of others would have gone with different gear and atleast 500W. Porting a box will yeild a few dB, an audible difference, both in SQ & SPL. I'll suggest again an Eclipse SW8200, the recommended enclosure size is .5-1.5 cuft sealed. I sealed a 12" with 1.2 cuft and its great, 670W RMS and poor efficiency, so you'd need to switch the amp. Keep in mind a type-S nor CVR "pounds". You won't have to vent into the cabin, besides, it seems like you can't? What are you driving? Frunk lol.
thanks for the replies
unfortunately the Eclipse SW8200 wont fit in my enclosure because my mounting depth is 6 inches. :P
heres some picks of my enclosure...
stuffs the frunk :P
about an inch for excrusion and the externals of the sub.
as you can see there isnt much room to play with so thats why I have to go shallow. Are there any other good shallow mount subs out there that would possibly fit?

I put 4-8's in behind the seats in an '86.... sealed enclosure. 2 behind each seat. The subs were down on the ground that the enclosure was on an angle to match behind the seats and wall... stupid loud install!!! 300 rms to each sub...
