so I think I settled on my midrange (Fountek FR88EX)

Picked up an h701. Looking to match a set of midrange/tweet/full range with my mpyre 65m.

Came across this: http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=132&products_id= 8585

Looks like a decent driver, some good reviews.

My questions:

1) will I need a tweeter to smooth out the upper range? or will the pxa-h701 eqs be able to clean that up?

2) is that enough power handeling? I will likely crossover around 125 - 300hz range.

3) where could I order these in Canada?

Looking to place these in the dash/ A pillar area of an my soarer (sc400).

Since I have the pxa, I do not mind going 3 way active front stage if I have to, its just a matter of extra clutter in the dash/a-pillar area. I will need to sell one of the nine.2x and pick up a nine.4

I would never recommend buying till you have listened, and I listen to a lot of drivers and have never heard them... I am not implying they are bad or good but questions 1 and 2 would be set by ear

I dont think this speaker will give you much at 125 Hz. It's not very efficient and dosent seem to take much power. I'm not saying it wont work, just that it isnt the best on paper. Vifa make a good 3" mid you could look into. Try www.solen.com. They should have what your looking for.

i dont think that you would need that midrange to get down that low.after better processing and messing with my pods for the mpyres i have been able to raise my low pass(i responded in another thread of yours) and is currently at 200hz. and it seems the mpyres will play even higher.

agreed, but I dont know how this mid will sound either. I think the recommendation was 400hz and above.

isnt Fountek famous for its ribbon tweeters?

sweetlikechutny 07-23-2009 05:36 PM

yes

but theres a bit of hype going on about the FF88EX. Some good reviews, and I like how tiny these things are, makes for an easy install. Not a bad price either. I contacted Solen and they said they could do it for 32ea

throw away money, if you dont like em toss em! They have been reviewed well and they measured well... but so do Accutons and I think the Accutons are edgy and without any shred of warmth on top of being stooopid expensive (>350US ea) so I would do it without batting an eye (of couse I have to empty audio equipment from the living room with a back hoe)

haha, its a matter of time for me more then anything. I wanna do it once and I wanna do it right!!

I am never happy with any system I ever finish up...ever. I want to be able to compete in my soarer, so this has to go right this time.

I am looking over at the vifa selection as John suggested, but if anyone else has any recommendations, I would love to hear them.
