SQ sub dillema
SQ sub dillema
Currently my system has two JL audio 10w1's sealed in a .65 in ea chamber and are facing the rear hatch. They are crossed off at 63hz @ 24db and powered with an Alpine MRD-M605.
I'm finding the bass to be very plenty on some music and others I have to dial down the NF level by 3. I personally like the quality of the w1's and am seriously thinking of a change.
My dillema is spending around 1K for a either a JL Audio 13w6 or a Focal 33KX, along with a custom 1" MDF and fiberglass box.
I'd like to sandwich the box in one of the corners and fire it upwards directed at the drivers head rest
Any suggestions?
ps. HU - Eclipse CD7100, Audison LRx2.4 ~ Focal KP100s & KBE165, Alpine MRD-M605 ~ two JL Audio 10w1

$1000. Your nuts! JL makes great stuff, but where are you buying your subs?
It's common for different songs and cd's to have different bass responses. I would work on your box before spending the bucks on new product. If you like the sound of what you've got, try to make it work better for you first. You might save some dough.

I agree with Fozzz.
I have had JL's and a Focal Utopia and have found my current IDQ10's to sound the best by far.
Try different box alignments. I found that a box slightly bigger than JL's recommendations yielded better results. Try a 0.8 cu.ft/chamber enclosure.
If you are going focal, i would recommend the Polyglass series, they are very dynamic and have a great response and small box requirements.

Can the Focal K2 33KX accept 400 watts since they only come in dual 2ohm configs? I'd like to get more power but I do not have room for a larger amp.
Sealed or Ported for that sub?
I'd like to try the 33KX b4 buying it - No one in my area can help me out - I'm willing to drive if need be!
Thanks
Julian
Are there any Image Dynamics Dealers in the GTA area - Has anyone had much experience with the IDQ subs from Image Dynamics? Most of the SQ winners last year are using IDQV3's, Alpne type X's, and Focal K2's.
I don't have enough power for the type X. The K2(4 ohm only??) or the IDQ look promising!

what ohm rating are you looking for???
I have Idq's, 10's and 1 12, and a 13w6 and ill tell you now the 13w6 sounds much better, it plays lower, has better tonal balance, and has a ton more output!!! I only know of one person using a idq10v3 that won finals. They do sound good but you need 3-4 to get enogh output to satisfy your inner crave....
