I will agree that the H800 has potential to be a top processor (if not one of the best out there) but as much as I love Alpine stuff, I had to shy away from this one for now due to all the headaches many of those who were early adopters of this unit experienced. A bunch of guys jumped the gun and bought the Asian/Australian H800 and had huge problems requiring dealing with Alpine and obtaining firmware upgrades, etc. Some swearing they would never buy Alpine again. See the huge thread on the H800 on the DiYMA site if you wish.
Now, after delaying the north America version, hopefully alpine will get it right. And any of the current H800 owners who haven't experienced any problems with the H800 and are happy, overjoyed, etc.-- good for you, please save your comments as I said "many early adopters" not "all".

Just throwing it out there for conversation, but does anyone have an opinion on the JBL MS-8? I hear its substantially different because its a pre-amp processor? Is this legit... Or just some sales man crap?

Thanks

They are all pre-amp processors. What were they referring to?

I have had the opportunity to play a little with the MS-8. Personally, I didn't like the interface - I preferred the way my Alpine H700 menu system worked.

In my opinion, the MS-8 is a good choice if you want to use the built in power or want to rely on the auto-tuning.

Well that makes more sense. The discussion came up when I was once told that the speakers (focal) crossovers need to be removed when installing a processor.... is this true or false?

I've narrowed down my choices.... altho there arent' too many:

Audison BitOne - Requires manual tuning. I'm all for having someone tuning it once, but i dont want to have to keep doing it. So because the lack of a autotune, i've opted out of the BitOne

JBL MS-8 - To be honest, i dont know much about the JBL... I've always tried to stay clear. Dont ask why?! I honestly dont know! However i've read some great reviews and I can pick it up for $579. It also has autotune.

Alpine H800 -This unit also has autotune (from what i understand) but it has way more adjustable parameters. Not sure i need all this for just front speakers. I've had great experience with older Alpine Equipment. I can pick this up for $699.

To be honest... i'm leaning towards the JBL. I'm sure i cant go wrong with any form of processing. I just need to find somewhere to install it haha.

Whata think?

Thanks

Stay away from the JBL. It has problems decoding stereo. If you have a centre channel, go for it, otherwise, pick a different option.

My 2 cents

What does "problems decoding stereo" even mean?

I would think if there was a rpboelm it would be the "reincoding".

I dont have a center and don't plan on doing so. So if JBL is not, easily able, to tune a system based on just fronts, then it wont work. But the big question.... will the Alpine be any better? To be honest.. I havent been able to find alot of reviews on the H800. Does anyone have an opinion on this unit? Their kinda hard to find, is it that new?
