Subs don't sound right

I have a pair of Sundown SA12 dual 4ohm voice coils subs in a 1.16 pr sub sealed enclosure. They are in my 99 quad cab 3500 ram firing up behind the front seats. They are powered by a RF T1000bd@1ohm. Something just doesn't sound right. The subs pound hard at 25 hertz but start to fall off the higher you go and by 40 hertz they have really rolled off hard which is very wierd because I figured a small sealed box would give me a higher tuning with tighter bass. I listen to mainly rock, country, blues, and metal type music which generally doesn't have a lot of very deep bass. I built my own box...nothing fancy ...just a simple sealed two chambered box. Another thought was to ditch the SA 12s and buy a set of the SA8 v2 subs... the 8s might suit my taste in music a little better than the larger 12s. It seems as though I'm getting a lot of cone noise...and not enough output from the subs...until the real low notes...then it'll shake the dashboard! !! Any help and opinions would greatly be appreciated. Also I'm running a set of neopro 8s in my doors and I'm now overdriving my tweeters!! I was thinking of purchasing some Skar supertweeters....what would some of you guys recommend? Thanks,Kevin

Try disconnecting one of them and let us know what happens.

Why? Do you think they might be out of phase?

The recommended sealed is 1 cube.

Where is your crossover on the amp set at? Does your deck have a low pass filter, if so where is it set at?

I would sell the SA's and get a pair of Sundown SD-2 12's, they have a higher QTS than the SA's, have a higher FS and are shallow mount which would be the perfect sub for your application.

Forgot to take the .14 out of the equation for the sub displacement. Box is 1.02 cubic ft pr sub. Amp crossover is set a around 45 hertz.Any higher and it sounds worse.

That should not happen, it should play comfortably above 45 hz. You should try what Dukk suggested, try them separately, it would rule out if one sub have a problem, recheck all wiring.

By 45 hertz they are flat...... This weekend I will disconnect one sub and then the other. I also lined my boxes with some polyfill.... would that affect the sound? I've read that doing that tricks the speaker into thinking it's in a larger box. What do you guys think about switching to the SA8 v2... wouldn't the smaller sub be more accurate? I also need sime louder tweeters...my Boston acoustics tweets can't keep up with the Sundown neopro 8s I run for mids.... I'm trying to build a better sounding system.

Smaller subs are not necessarily more accurate.

Yes I am wondering if one may be out of polarity.

sa in a sealed? theyre meant for ported technically.

8s 10s shallows work best due to small ported boxes it only needs to get down and loud.
