I am getting ready to install some Focal 136K in my VW Corrados door. Does the volume of the door itself play a big part in the speakers performance? Right now there is a moisture barrier that recesses into the door forming a pocket for the speaker. Would building a fibreglass pocket (thus sealing the door from the speaker be of any benefit or detriment to the way the speaker makes sound? Thanks in advance

dont put the speaker in a sealed box , ull get all sorts of peaks. just seal the holes of the door up really well and sound deaden the crap outa ur doors

why would a sealed box give peaks in response, if its the right size it should do the exact opposite

With the correct volume sealed it should rip!

Definatly seal her up !

just be carfull to make sure she has enough volume to give you the response you want...

well sorry , i wasnt sure if he was refering to sealing the door or building a small sealed box for the speaker. sorry for the screw up

I was refering to making a fibreglass pocket for the speaker that would not allow pressure to travel inside the door. I have no idea if this would be of benefit, or would just sealing as much of the door openings as possible be preferable?

Although there are exceptions, I find that many 5.25-6.5" drivers enjoy the larger volume of the entire door cavity.

^^are they not engineered for exactly that application? I mean they are designed to be mounted in the door in most cases. I am not an engineer, so I may be wrong...but seems to make sense. Please educate me if I'm incorrect in my assumption.

This is an age old debate, and I hate to post anything, but a speaker is designed with specific peramaters and should have an ideal enclosure! In my eyes anyway!
