What it's all about.

Today was an interesting day for me.
Never go to car dealerships that the wife likes! F'n Audi!
So after finally getting her to class after a good 30 minute drooling session, I was off to do some coniving "man" stuff.
Dukk, you are going to love this. The local audio emporium (nameless to protect the guilty) sells B&W. I've impressed upon a very friendly and nieve salesman that I really really would like to get a set of 800 series mids...just the drivers. He said he shouldn't have a problem with it...I wished him good luck.
I think I should mention at this point, that I already have a set of 6" mystery midranges being shipped to me...so I'm getting in over my head again. I'll share my adventures once again soon.
Now with my newfound enthusiasm for fabrication and general mutilation of my car, I headed to Home Depot. I just can't seem to avoid that place. Every time I go in, I find some new tool that I don't have. (or more accurately, haven't invented a need for yet...) I'm already banned from setting foot inside of the Snap On van...and Home Depot is sure to make it onto that list reeeeaaal soon. I found the welding section.
Luckily, I escaped with only a new tape measure and a book on welding. I got into my car, and popped in some music to accompany my light reading session. I didn't read much...
Once again, I was capitivated by Rimski Korsikov on HDCD. I literally left my car, and went on a musical journey that lasted over an hour. Then I popped in some Jazz, and "chilled" to Dizzy Gilespi(SP) for an undetermined length of time. By the time I was done, the parking lot was empty.
I don't know how many of you take time to enjoy the music, but it's the soul of this hobby for me. I am unappoligetic in my passion for great music, and journey that awaits the soul if you listen.
I hope you all find out what it's all about.
Adam

I don't get very mant opporunities to be swept up in the music while in my car, but that's pretty much my favorite past time at home. Wait until night, turn out all the lights and just give myself to the Totems. Truley a religious experience for me.

^ Totem had a real nice display at CES, they took the Native American theme and used fabric to wrap their room (the rooms at Alexis needed room treatments. They were showing a nice little floor stander (4" wide) that had bass (granted it was peaky ported bass). My big surprise was the totem in-wall speakers... very nice, flat freq response too I would buy them (they would sound good in a car too!)

Hi Adam,
I always enjoy reading your posts! Very well written and lots of humor too!
One day (no idea when that will happen) I will have my audio system installed and I will be able to experience "what it's all about"!
I think I need to take some courses in installing audio, otherwise I will never get around to getting my audio system installed. I finally bought some speakers - I got Focal Utopias 165W with the TN51 tweeters! So that just leaves the subs. Every other piece of hardware is pretty much accounted for!

I have a new CD from Kimber Kable that is a sampler. The intent of the CD/SACD is to show off the IsoMike recording technique.
Well the recording technique is spectacular and the musical selection is simply wonderful, Jazz, percussion, classical symphony, chamber music, and choral (19 tracks). For goodness sake give Kimber Kable a call and get one, I have NEVER heard a more realistic recording that locks the musicians in their actual locations. The recording also conveyed the emotion behind the music very well.
