Whinning sounds - only when cold?
Whinning sounds - only when cold?
i know this has been covered many times, check RCA's and grounds
but on my particular case it only seems to happen in the morning or when the deck/system is cold
this morning it was happening then after about 4 mins it went away
any idea on why??

My guess is that your battery is still cold.
I remember commercials advertising "Cold Cranking Amps" ratings on batteries.
well it's just a guess for what it's worth.
Unless your whining is related to using your defrosters?

Power steering pumps usually whine in the cold.
Mine does it, and I have valvoline synthetic PS fluid in it too, made no diff.
Note: some PS pumps run off of ATF, not PS, and possibly other fluids too, dont just go randomly adding to it! Having said that, it won't hurt to replace your existing PS fluid with a synthetic version.

was it a constant whine or did it vary with engine RPM ?
not too sure what the rest of you are talking about but i wasn't refering to my actual car making noise...the stereo was making the noise ie the alternator whine or whatever else it is called but his guy had the only relevent reply
ok thanks, how exactly does the battry "filter noise"??
and yes it varied with RPM, same as the good old alternator whine, i just want to know why it only does it when cold
