Will this damage a passive cross-over

Jamie is right, but it isn't a 100% going to happen, depends on how well the xo is built. It will change how the XO acts though.

Try it and see, I dont think it will, and if it does, WGAF, just by new xovers from ur local shop or eBay, and go back to the way you were runnin it b4
