01 grand prix problems

Im new to car audio and just bought a deck, wire harness, mount kit for my grand prix, when i bought it, it came without the owners manual. The problem is i have no idea how to remove the factory h/u I can't find any screws or tabs anywhere. Anyone who has installed a h/u in a 2001 grand prix please help, someone mentioned i have to remove the plastic around the gearstick, and google only showed mea diagram that doesn't look anything like my dashboard. thanks

First off you have to remove 2 screws holding the trim piece under the steering wheel. Be sure you unscrew the light attched to the trim piece before you remove it from the car. You then have to find a corner on the large trim piece that goes around the dash and center stack and VERY carefully pull it off. It's a large pice so take your time and maybe have someone hold it for you while you do.

Once you have that piece out of the car you will see 2 screws holding the stock deck in place. Remove them and you are good to go from there.

OH, once you have the large piece loose you will have trouble getting it past the steering wheel. Lower the wheel as far as you can and in fact have your helper push it down farther than the lowest position, it will move another 1/4" Then carefully slide it up and over the steering wheel.

I'm just going by memory on this but I think I have it all covered.

Any problems just ask.
