Sub : '05 RE XXX 12"

Amps : Exile X1200.1's, strappable 1200 watts at 1ohm, 800watts at 2 ohm, 400watts at 4ohm

im going to be running a coil to each amp for now, are there any considerations that i should be aware of when doing so. I have heard to make sure that the wire from each amp to each coil is the exact same length, im not sure if thats fact or one of those urban myths of car audio.

any input on that matter or other things to watch out for would be greatly appreciated.

What is the ohm's of each coil?

 

Why don't you just strap the amps and series the coils? Dual 2's right? Each amp would see 2 ohms when strapped like that... 1600RMS sounds nice to me. This way, you don't have to worry about gain-matching.

 

I believe as a norm when strapping 1 ohm stable amps together the final load would be 2ohms (90% of them anyways), if the driver is dual 1 or .7ohm coils I believe you should be fine by strapping and parallaling the coils.

 

the sub is dual 2 ohm, so with a .5 ohm load on the amps after strapping thats an issue, also im currently sorting out an issue where i have 2 amps, one has the toggle master/slave switch for strapping and one does not, same model, same year, littel confused, so for now i have 2 identical monoblock amps, no strapping for me

 

Well when strapping amps you just take the final impedance of the woofer(s) and cut it in half. If the XXX is dual 2 ohm, then series it so it shows a load of 4 ohms, then connect that to the strapped amps, and each will see 2 ohms, giving 800RMS each for a total of 1600.

If you parallel the dual 2 sub for a load of 1 ohm, when placed on a strapped pair, each amp will effectively see .5 ohms, which might work for you too, but would be a little riskier.

If you don't strap, I would suggest matching the gains with a DMM and a 60hz tone.

 

ok, i found this guide on setting gain, is this a reccomended process for properly setting gain, or are there other detailsi should keep in mind?

That's how I'd go about doin' it.

 

having closley matched gains is only an issue if the amps are bridged parrallel with one another...........

otherwise I wouldn't worry about it........

 

Haunz I can't say I understand that... care to explain? In strapping amps, are they not bridged in parallel? Otherwise the load would increase rather than be chopped in half, wouldn't it?

If one amp is delivering major juice to one coil, and the other amp is barely powering the other coil, wouldn't that cause some problems?
