91 Civic replacing stock deck

Hey guys,

Hopefully someone can help me out with my problem.

So I had a Kenwood deck lying around and I'm trying to put it in a 1991 Civic I just bought. The civic still had the stock deck and wiring. I've tried wiring it without a wiring harness.

I've checked manuals for the car and the deck and should have had this running fine by now but it isn't working. I've also encountered something strange.

All of the speaker wires are colored properly accorded to the guide I used. There is also suppost to be a white/blue stripe wire for the 12v constant and a yellow/red striped wire for the ignition. The white/blue stripe wire is there, but the only others are a white/green stripe (no mention of this wire ANYWHERE) and a red/black stripe (illimination I believe) and a black (ground).

So does this mean that the white/green striped wire is the ignition and they messed up?

After doing some searching I found a plug in behind where the deck was and there are some more wires plugged into something, don't know what it is. But they are another white/blue stripe wire, 2 white/green striped wires, a black wire, and yellow/red wire. I don't know what there were plugged into so I don't know if that yellow/red striped wire is actually the ignition even though it wasn't plugged into the stock deck..

I'm very confused.. hopefully someone can enlighten me on what those wires in behind the deck are for.. or if they are even part of the stereo wiring. Also, that white/green striped wire.. why does no one mention this in any guide I've read.

Please help.

Hey,
I've got the same car. Don't know why you have multiple wires of the same colour. The black is definitely ground. Just use a test light to confirm constant and switched power. The yellow/red should be switched power and the blue white should be constant. You have the speaker wires figured out right? Should be simple then.

Well, behind where the deck was sitting there is was a plug. I unplugged it and pulled up the casing and it exposed the wires. That's were the other white/blue stripe and 2 white/green striped wires are along with the yellow/red striped wire. They go someone separately from all the speaker wires ect. They're bundled separately if that makes any sense. Sorry, kind of new to this.

It seems, from doing a little search, that the white/green are also switched power. I did not use it, not even sure I have a white/green. I only used the yellow/red.

So:
Constant 12V Blue/White (matches up with yellow wire on aftermarket deck)
Switched 12V Yellow/Red (matches up with red wire on aftermarket deck)
Ground Black

Front Speakers 6 1/2" Doors

Left Front (+) Blue/Green
Left Front (-) Gray/Black

Right Front (+) Red/Green
Right Front (-) Brown/Black

Rear Speakers 6 1/2" Rear Deck

Left Rear (+) Blue/Yellow
Left Rear (-) Gray/White

Right Rear (+) Red/Yellow
Right Rear (-) Brown/White

Okay, well thanks for the help and quick reply. I'm still extremely confused as to what those other wires are for though.

Well, I got a light tester and decided to check for current.

Found out only that yellow & red stripe wire is constant and I don't know how to check for switch..

Yellow & Red stripe stays lit when the key is on. I couldn't get the light tester to light up with any other wires.

So I connected the yellow & red stripe to the 12v constant and the white & green stripe to the 12v switch and I could hear the head unit drive's spinning but the faceplate didn't show it was getting power. So the head unit might be messed up or else I might have made a mistake somewhere.

Constant will have power all times regardless of key. The switched will only have power with the key set to "on". So no key, no switched power.

That's strange then, I couldn't get a constant power source from any of the wires. The stock radio seemed to be working fine that was in there before though.
