Newbie question:
How do I get the stock stereo out of my '92 Vigor? I've got the centre console removed and the 2 screws behind the ashtray removed. The radio stack is kinda loose now, but without really prying or taking the hole dash out (which I don't know how to do either) I'm stuck.

So, where/how do I pry without breaking, or are there more screws to remove that I can't see to get the thing out?
Any other tips on replacing the stock unit are appreciated. I will be putting in a base model Pioneer. The stock one is busted and I just want to replace it at minimal cost.

Hah-haaaaaaaaaa............ I use to have a '92 Vee-gor. And I know exactly what you missed........ I think.

Between the ventilation slider controls, there is a tab. With a small flathead, pry that little sucker out. Under there, you'll find a small screw that has to come out. After that is out, pry out the ventilation controls. Under there you'll find the top two screws that you need to take out that holds the frame that holds the stock deck.

I have a ton of experience with gutting Vee-gors. If you need any help with anything else, drop me a line and I'll see what I can remember.........

Actually, I just checked and I seem to still have my Sounddomain page up for the VEE-gor I had !!!

thanks for the link up there, but the Vigor isn't in their database.

dawag,
Well I dunno if you're right. In fact I think you're wrong which is weird. I pried the clock/vent assembly out to have a look if there were any screws- nope. What I ended up doing was taking a flathead and gently prying around the radio/pocket seam. It just pops right out...no screws no nothing!
So basically in a vigor the only tools required are 1 flathead screwdriver to get the thing out.
I installed a JVC basic model but had to buy a bracket to make it fit properly.
Dead easy for my first time, and now that its hooked up I want better speakers.

Hopefully you didn't munch the dash up in doing so. But I guess as you now have it out, no issues then. Find it surprising that you got it all out just by prying around the radio. That must mean someone had it out before and never re-installed the factory screws.

I know for sure that the ventilation control above the radio has a screw in it to hold it to the removable radio framing. That screw is located between the two slider controls under a tab. Then that ventilation control is pried out and the ashtray removed and you have to remove four screws. Trust me, I did it a zillion times. YOU CANNOT PROPERLY REMOVE THIS FACTORY DECK ON AN ACURA VIGOR WITH JUST A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER. You will kill the surrounding dash area. This would hold true for both the LS and
GS models of the car (I had a GS witha double din radio).
