Question

I have a 93 Accord and would like to replace the factory speakers and was looking for some suggestions. I currently have a Pioneer 7600 head unit. I am not sure what size will fit in the front doors. I would like to keep the interior stock if possible.

My g/f has a '92 so I'm assuming they're the same which are 6.5 coaxis in the doors and rear parcel shelf. If I remember correctly the rears pretty much dropped in, and I removed the plastic basket in the doors then screwed the new ones to the metal. You can also make a nice mdf ring for them to sit on. This doesn't affect the stock look at all.

Go to a a few stores and listen to some speakers. Maybe try the Pioneers to match the hu.

Thanks, Fever

I think I will wait until the warmer weather, pull the door panels off and see what size (depth) I can fit in using the MDF rings you spoke of. I guess I will have to seal the speakers from the back once I remove the baffle as well.

Check the rear deck though, some coupe had 6x9s in them.

You can use a 3/4" MDF spacer on that car, you will just have to taper the bottom a bit to clear the grill. You can use the factory plastic piece, just cut the water catcher off.

Thanks Tim,
I got a little over zealous and pulled one of the door panels off. It has a 4 or 4.5 inch speaker in it. There is a black moulded baffle that fills the entire cavity in the door. When removed there is a larger hole that shows the inside of the door that looks like it would accommodate a 5.5 or a 6.5 speaker. I was a little surprised that the stock sound was coming from such a small speaker. I will have to measure the radius and depth and factor in the ¾ spacer then, let the shopping begin. I will keep my eye on the “for Sale forum” for just such an item.
I will try and buy the best I can as I would like to add an Amp in the future.

PS. You are correct, the rears are 6x9's. Any thoughts on a "bassie" set of 2 ways? After reading all the do's and don’ts about rear speakers I am at a loss. I carry to much stuff in the trunk like hockey equipment and golf clubs to go the full sub route at this time.

What model Accord is it ? Sounds like you have the BOSE system with the big "funnel box".

If it's the bose it is all amplified, make sure you bypass all that crap and run new wires from your speakers to your deck.

"No highs, no lows, must be BOSE !"

It is an EXR, but I could not find an amp anywhere under the dash. When the HU was installed a small harness was used to mate up with the stock plug. When I install a new amp I will replace the wiring. There is a lot of information and links in this forum. I will just have to take my time and hopefully benefit from all the tips and tricks. This is a daily driver; I just want clean loud sound that won’t completely kill my wallet. Any thoughts on speakers and an Amp would be much appreciated.
