Alternator from 80 amp to 200 amp

Hi everyone:

I'm doing some upgrade to my electrical system, not because I’m getting problems just is being proactive and also because upgrading to a bigger sound for next summer. oh and most important because I’m getting a deal.

I'm going from a 80 stock Alternator to a after market or ACdelco , or MGK 200 amp Alternator .

Now is there any issue that I may encounter doing this? Like for example will too much amp will dry the cell from the batteries? some other failure ? Some capacitor damage? Power cable replacement from 4 to 0 gage

I have a 1000 RMS amp for subs and another one 400 RMS amp for mid's .
2 subs 500 RMS each sealed box. Power cable 4 gage from battery in engine to amps.

Please input comments. Thanks for reading!

Im not 100% sure but you may need a new regulator or your voltage gauge will jump all over the place.but thats not really a big deal.

New technology alternators (most new alternators) have a build in voltage regulator . so...

You may find that you loose a significant amount of HP/torque and get less current at lower RPMs...

A 200 amp alt is pretty big (especially for a 4 cylinder engine).. I might consider going to 140 or 150 instead...

you might need a bigger belt for your truck, if your fuel management system isnt controlled by your computer you may lose gas milage, you can get either internally regulated HO alts or Externally regulated Alts, My brother tried both and liked the Externally regulated better as you can change your voltage as you feel. He has had no problems charging his d34 purple haze battery. He has had no problems with his alt.

Ok so I got a 120 (idle) - 160 (running) amps alternator. Originally the stock alternator was 80 amps This boasted my db from 120 to 149.7
