ALright my system consists of 2 amps so far.......phoenix gold zx400ti on my infinity perfect comps. and a re 12.1 on my RE 12 triple X XXX . i have a 5 farad on my 12.1 and the voltage still drops to 12.5V when its fully cranked.....now my dealer told me to upgrade my alt as in just get it rebuilt for higher output.

My concern is im stupid and i will upgrade as soon as i have more money........Right now i have just the 1 XXX. But when tax season rolls around....i belive the new XXX will be out so ill probably want 2 of those Ill have a cash flow at this time.

what woudl you guys reccomend here ? I was told my stock alternator can be rebuilt up to 130-140AMP output max.....so around 60A idle i belive.....Ive checked some US sites and i can buy a 180AMP alt with 80-100Idle and 180amp 1600-2000RPM for about 350CDN. Im leary about buying from states but if its a worth it ill give it a shot.

Shoudl i spend big $$$ on a huge alt now or just do the rebuild for about 160bux?

If anyoen has reccomendations on where to get alt done that would be great im In Kitchener/Waterloo area.

If that's all your going to be paying for the rebuild then I would go for it.

I was in the same situation as you just a couple of months ago. After installing 2 amplifiers, my 60 amp alternator died. I was pretty much expecting it. My alternator could only be rebuilt to 90 Amps. The other option was to spend $500 on a high performance aftermarket alternator. I decided to go with the 90 Amp and I haven't had any problems since.

The 2 amps I was running : PG ZX450 V2 and alphasonic (300) watts.

Total RMS wattage was around 700. In reality I was probably only using half of that. So the 350 watts I was running is significantly less than what you're running.

I'm guessing you're probably averaging about 700 watts RMS total. 130-140 AMPS should be okay.

Try to get slightly larger than you need. This way if you ever upgrade your system you won't have to get another alternator. I'm currently upgrading my system to the MTX Thunder 500D. I'm praying that my 90 AMP alternator will pull through for me. If you have the extra cash to spend then you might want to get the one from the US. On the other hand, if you're broke then your choice is obvious.

Big 3 before any alternator work.

I still have to do the big 3. But at 1600WRMS system with intention to go bigger in less than a year i bet a alternator is gonna be needed soonner than later. I dont fully crank my system often....but i dont feel comfortable having voltage drop to 12.8v on heavy bass notes.
