I would check the max current draw for that amp at 1 ohm. maybe it needs a 80a fuse. * the battery fuse is only meant to protect the power wire in case of an accident, and not the amp.

 

yea i knew that but if the wire can only carry 60amps without blowing the fuse then dosent it mean the amp is taking less than 60amps? yet it has 2 80amp fuses on it...thats why im confused.

 

^ the amp only draws the high amperage when its being pushed... like cranking up 45hz boost at +18db etc at high level. and not when its at a moderate level.

if it has 2/80a on the amp..... and asumming the amp will pull that kind of current.... you should be running atleast #2+ guage power wire with a 160a fuse at the batt.

 

Just like to add some theory on this question:

Mathematically, P (Power) = I (amperage/current)* V(Voltage) or I=P/V (this is the size of fuse supposedly inline with an amplifier).Example: your system (with load) is rated at 900W running with 13volts supply, your current draw would be about at 70 amp max(900/13). To be safe,a 60amp fuse would be recommended.

 

Thats a good theory, but you didn't take into account that the average A/B amp is 50% effiecient, so double your current draw.
The rest of the current is converted to heat.

 

O.k. just got the spec for the Hifonics 1605d.

the amps is rated at 1600wrms @ 1 ohms, and its a class d amp. not sure what the dynamic power is tho.

no wonder you're poping the 60 amp fuse......
