amp/ohm wiring question

Am thinking about getting a RF P8004 amp, basically it puts out 100 X 4 @ 4 ohm and 200 X 4 @ 2 ohm. Now, i've got 2 subs which are 2 ohm. that said, would i be able to hook up 200 X 2 at the 2 ohm, and connect the two other free channels to components (which may not be 2 ohm?) Would the amp automatically send the components a 4 ohm load??

second part - just thought of this, would i be able to hook up 200W on each voice coil of ths subs (they are dual) basically giving me 400 per sub, using up the 200 X 4 @ 2 ohm??

i'm new to this ohm business, so trying to wrap my head around. thanks for any help.

If you've got dual 2 ohm subs, you can configure the sub to a final 2 ohm load. You could attempt hooking up to only one of the coils at a 2 ohm load but most people would caution you on this.

You can hook one channel to each of the coils but then you're getting in to setting the gain controls using a voltmeter to ensure that each coil is being given the exact same power and you don't damage your subs.

In my opinion, you've a really decent amp to power your front stage with that 4 channel. I'd just add a monoblock for the subs...

yeah, i'm not too worried about powering the subs with that amp - my main question is whether it's possible to run the subs and components off the same amp. getting 2 amps isn't an option unfortunately.

this diagram seems to be what i'm looking at - if i just want to use the amp to run the subs.

I can't say that I'm familiar with that particular wiring configuration. I know people that have done it though...

yeah, that crutchfield diagram would work. your amp will put out 400wrms for each sub when bridged like that, and the series wiring would give u a 4ohm load for each (bridged) channel. (most 4ch amps can't handle 2ohms when bridged anyway, so this is ideal)
