Question amp power

I got a question.. right now my amp is getting power from my deck/head.... is that alright or maybe its safer to go direct to the battery???
thanks

also i think am not sure but think ma amp blew, ill test it later again cos it might be my remote on that had been giving me problems... If it did though break, is it possible to fix it??
thanks again

i think it is normal for the amp to get power from the battery.

if your amp is broken you could get it fixed, but it may cost a lot, so if its a junk amp- id just get a new one

HU? your amp's main Positive feed should go directly to the battery,, with a fuse not more than 18" away from the battery...
Only the amp remote on should be connected to the (normally) plue wire from your HU.

So you didnt catch the hint when you saw your amps power and ground holes are huge and your putting 18 AWG from the deck into it?

there must have been SOME picture on the amp install kit or in the amp manual that said to connect it to the battery and not the deck.

whys the fuse need to be less than 18'' away? mines in that range, but only because it said on the internet/install kit. just wondering what it has to do with distance.

As far as I know, it is just to limit the length of wire that could short out. If you placed the fuse further down the cable, then you have a higher chance of a short as there is a higher possibility of contact between the cable and a grounded conductor.

The "within 18inches" rule is, there is no fused protection for the first 18 inches, but the odds of the first 18" grounding out or shorting, are quite slim, and we always use loom to help protect the power feeds anyways.

If the fuse was farther down the line, like at the amps, and the wire shorted, you would have a good possibility of a fire hazzard, and your ride burning to the ground.

The recommended is to put the fuse as close to the battery as possible. Mine is within 6 inches.

Not quite...

do some more reading before give advice on electrical systems.
