Question

i recently bought a 96 toyota celica hatchback and in the past couple days i have installed a cd player, sub, amp, front and rear speakers, windshield washer nozzels, and 2 15-inch neon tubes. After all this my car started making this really annoying high-pitched noise (sounds like a super-charger) when i accelerate and have the cd player on. At first the sound came from the left-rear speaker, but when i replaced those the sound started coming from somewhere in the front of the car. i can get the sound to stop when i have my neon lights turned off and i switch the yellow power wire with the red memory wire in the back of the cd player, but then my cd player does not turn on when the car is started. If i havnt seriously confused you yet then any suggestions or comments that you may have would be helpful. thank you in advance.

alternator whine

its like interference from your engine's electrical system with your stereo's wiring..

someone more knowledgeable than me will help ya..

easy way out is try a 'ground loop isolator', it may work, for a quick fix

I had this too, checked everything a million times.
What my problem was, it was the ground to one of my amps.
Recheck all of your grounds, I would be willing to bet money that that is the cause.

it could be the neon as orion said.. if that neon is near the rca cables, the transformer in there could cause interference.. i'd check the grounds also like was previously suggested.

^The guys have you on the right track. There is more options to troubleshoot this but cover these first!

One time I had a similar high pitched whine in my car. Turning the volume up helped drown it out but it wasn't until I stopped the car opened the trunk, got out the tire iron and told my wife to shut the heck up did it go away!

Yes they are, the neons are on either side of the center console down by my feet (one is on drivers side and other is on passenger side)

first off i want to thank all you guys for your contributons. i ended up fixing the problem on accident so to say. i pulled out the cd player and was looking at the connections and noticed 2 wires that werent fully connected. i recrimped them how they were supposed to be and the noise magically went away. thanks again.
