I just discovered these things after buying an Audison amp and reading through the manual (btw, the translator for Audison should be shot). Anyway, I found what they call a main crimp sleeve at a local home audio shop. They are made by WBT - 99% oxygen free, flex gold plated. Cost me 35 bucks for 50 of them. It is so convenient to use and the contact is so perfect. With proper crimping (cold welding), one side is round, matching the hole, while the other side is indented for the set screw to fit snugly into - fits like a glove.

I am also glad I invested in a ratcheting crimper about a year ago - my favourite tool.

Anyway, gone are the days of soldering the ends of cable. I just hate trying to get all the loose strands of wire into the hole of an amp. Twist the strands and you're screwed (no pun intended).

Anyone else use this stuff? Or is this common knowledge. I'm an old dog that's used to equipment with screw and fork terminals and not the compression type (set screw).

You can buy 4-6 (dpending on size) for $1.49 at canadian tire.... not gold plated or anything but they do the job just fine...

Id definatly use these things if your amp uses set screws.. makes the install cleaner and helps make removal and re-install go smoothly....

Wow, good to know. That means I can get the stuff at an electronics supplier in bulk for cheaper. These things make so much sense. Instead of splitting the bare wires apart inside the receptacle, it molds them into the proper shape. I think people can say all they want about the differences in the quality of cables, but I think it's all useless if the connections are sub par. Not to mention the danger factor of wires working themslves loose.

Hey
Weidmuller also makes a cool tool like that with ferrules to fit wire from 28 AWG to 6 AWG stranded. I use them all the time at work, one crimper for all sizes and it makes a gas tight fit.
