Breaking in the driver

Hi. Quick question about breaking in the sub. As I got little to excited when I installed my new(straight from the box) sw8200 and decided to test how it sounds cranked on the first day- did I screw up? Nothing happen to the driver but I'm asking as everyone recomends to "break" it in first... What's the purpose of it? And how long should I be going easy on the sub?

I always thought "breaking in" a sub was the period it takes to loosen up the spider. A low test tone that makes your sub move well without bottoming out for 5 - 10 min should do the job. That's what I've always done.

Strong spiders with little power might take months .....

A general break in procedure involves running the driver near maximum excursion for approximately 24 hours. One way to do this would be to find a tone close to the Fs of the driver. Leave the driver uninstalled and CLOSELY monitor driver output and xmax until you get it to maximum xmax...Come back in 24 hours.

Haha ... Unimstalled for me means indoor.. Running mine sw8200 at 1,5" xmax for 24 hours will get me out of uni before the sub is broken in lol... But I get the point... So in real life- just use it and it will broke itself in... Correct?... Also I understand the spider will loosen up- but will that increase the output? I think it will lover the dumping factor- which is not a good thing... :/ ... Little confused...

More output by means of more excursion, yes.

Speaker break in? perhaps a few seconds. minutes...
I have yet to see any test data that shows any significant shift in T/S parameters before and after break in. In the contrary I have seen test data that shows that there is NO significnat change in T/S parameters after a break in period.
