Car Computer with Android Remote Control

Greetings! I am planning on building a car computer using an Android tablet as the remote control. I am after advice from anybody that has tried this before? i.e. what hardware and remote control software did you use?

I have a desktop computer running Windows 7 that I plan to install in my boot and an Android Galaxy tablet that I would like to use for the remote control. My car already has an inverter with power socket in the boot.

Any advice would be welcome :)

Hi, I am remotely controlling my car computer using Vectir PC Remote Control for Android. It comes with remotes built for controlling Winamp, iTunes, Windows Media Player and Spotify which makes it idea for a car computer remote control. I have Vectir Remote Control running on a Galaxy Tab S 8.4 which I have mounted in my dash where the stereo and ash tray would be. This app also supports custom remotes and I plan to add one for monitoring my battery levels. This will of course require extra hardware which I plan to interface with my car computer.

For the computer I would definitely recommend a solid state harddrive. They are not too expensive now. Otherwise your Windows 7 PC should be fine.

I am using a Kenwood KAC-7201 800W amp but this is of course up to you. RCA connections with the computer.

One other thing I needed was a noise filter.

Good luck and have fun!

Thank you very much! I have just installed Vectir Remote Control on my tablet and computer and so far it all looks good. Works really well as an iTunes remote control which I plan to use in my car.

I will take your advice on the solid state hdd however and order one today. Also need to buy the amp.

I can't wait to get this all setup now...

Thanks and Regards
