Am I missing something here? I was always led to beleive that crossovers would filter out the frequencies you didn't want going to your speakers. I was fooling around with my stereo last night(what else is new?)and found that my front stage plays down to 25-26 Hz when it is crossed over at 90 Hz on my EQX which is supposed to have a 24db slope. 25 Hz is a long way from 90 for that steep of a slope is it not? I even tried setting the hi-pass filter on my amp and even with it adjusted at 100 Hz, the midbass would still play that low. Btw i was using the test tones on Db Jams disc.

Are you hearing 25Hz notes through your front speakers?

Remember, the crossover doesn't do much more than slope off the frequencies starting from the selected point. IE, most x/o's have a 12db/octave crossover slope. So let's say you are playing that test CD at moderately high volume, say 100db; you set the high pass at 90, the volume at 45Hz will be theoretically 12db less than at 90. Furthermore, it will be 12db less at 22.5 than 45.

So you have a theoretical reduction of nearly 24db from 90Hz to 25. It may not seem as much, but it still saves a speaker considering just 6db makes twice the volume.

not to mention that an eqx has a subsonic filter of 33hz at 18db/octave from the factory, unless its been changed, were your woofers playing while listening to the test tones?

Thanks guys, and to answer both your questions, yes, i was listening to my front speakers, and my subwoofers were indeed off. The subsonic has not been changed. And that explains why my subs play well over 90Hz as well. I was under the assumption that a steep crossover would "cut" frequencies almost all together. I guess i know what i'll be doing toninte then,,,,adjusting all my settings again [img]smile.gif[/img] Thanks again for the help
