Finally installed my new 7500DVD and the in-dash unit's fan seems rather loud. Is this normal (I'm not to familiar with the these units) or do I have a bad HU? Will it get quieter with age as I just installed it?
It doesn't make any odd noises it's just that I can still hear it with the volume at low level.

Father Yuli 12-03-2004 12:05 AM

yah its loud and pioneer units are known for overheating, i had two that did and my budy had two that did as well.

Thumper89 12-03-2004 05:45 AM

There's a simple answer to this problem....

Turn up the Volume and watch some really loud movie like F&F...LOL...Isnt volume the quick fix to all automotive noises?LOL

Hardwrkr 12-03-2004 09:23 AM

Thanks Yuli.

Father Yuli 12-03-2004 09:58 AM

np, if your unit is installed over the heat vents on your dash try not to use them too much in the winter when the unit is playing, redirect the heat to the windows or your feet or something.

both my and my buddy have jeep grand cherokees and when we install the pioneer decks they go directly above the vents and with some heat going through the vents the units used to overheat after a few hours of play.

Hardwrkr 12-03-2004 12:56 PM

Mine is below the heat vents but I will keep an eye on it thanks.

Speaking of overheating, how hot does the hide-away processor get? I have it hidden away up front and the fan in it is open but I have a thin wrapping of bubble wrap over the unit itself so it doesn't accidentally get scratched.
You never know where these girl's stilletto heals will end up in the car right? ;)

Father Yuli 12-03-2004 01:38 PM

yah i got my hideaway unit in the passanger kickpanel behind carpet and its also wrapped. i dont know how hot it gets, never touched it after installing it.

its the HU itself that over heats i believe, not the hideaway unit.

Hardwrkr 12-03-2004 02:56 PM

Excellent, thanks.

Pioneer Guy 12-08-2004 12:30 AM

Hey Yuli & Hardwrkr,

You shouldn't have any problems no matter where you install the hideaway unit as the amplifier is in the head unit. I too have a Grand Cherokee ('94) & have had an in-dash monitor in there now for about two & a half years with no problems. Having said that, Vancouver is a more moderate climate so even though it's mounted right above the heating ducts, I don't have the heat on very often. Hardwrkr, I'm sure you'll enjot the AVH-P7500DVD as it's the coolest in-dash DVD monitor on the market right now!
Good luck!

Father Yuli 12-08-2004 02:54 PM

i beg to differ on the 'coolest' factor. i like my alpine d-300 better, my 5th tv deck in last 2 years.

Hardwrkr 12-08-2004 03:17 PM

I hated my Alpine 9835 deck so much it only lasted a week in my car and I sold it for $200 less than I paid for it.
I looked at the Alpine screens but after the 9835 I decided to go with the 7500DVD. I am extremely happy with it.

RDub 12-08-2004 03:27 PM

I dream my 9815 is a false plate to a d-300!...

ps: Yuli let me know when your on your 6th!

Pioneer Guy 12-08-2004 05:30 PM

You're right, Yuli, the IVA-D300 is a decent piece but it's more similar to the Pioneer AVH-P6600DVD. The AVH-P7500DVD comes with Dolby Digital/DTS decoding, Dolby Pro-Logic II, 5 channel MOSFET 50 amplifier, 6 channel 6.5 volt pre-outs, multi-channel auto equalization, time alignment, DVD audio playback, TV tuner, detachable faceplate & background graphics/screensavers. All these included features make it, in my mind, the "coolest".
Any way, that's why there's more than one brand in the market becuase if something was "the best" there'd be no reason to buy anything else!

Hardwrkr 12-09-2004 05:24 AM

Actually it has 5v preouts but it's still the coolest.

Pioneer Guy 12-09-2004 05:10 PM

Hey Hardwrkr,

Who told you it has 5 volt pre-outs? Pioneer doesn't make anything with 5 volt outputs - only the standard 2.2 volt on entry-level CD players, 4 volt for mid-level stuff & 6.5 volt on top end units? And I agree, "it's still the coolest"!

Father Yuli 12-09-2004 10:49 PM

I was choosing between the two and i went with the alpine. one of the reasons b/c pioneer would not warranty/could not 'duplicate' the problem i had with my 6500 so that turn me away from pioneer tv's.

and yes the pioneer screen unit itself can overheat!!

yes pioneer does have all the nice sound features, but there isnt much Dolby'ing i can do on a stock 4 speaker set up so i didnt care for those features anyways. Alpine has some crazy features as well, which i dont even know how to use or what they do, but all the SQ guys go crazy over them.....to me they are useless.

Pioneer decks are VERY picky when u try to play a VCD in it, it wont read VCD half the time. My alpine reads them all.

i love alpine touch screen capability, not just pre defined feilds on the screen like pioneer but rather the whole screen is interactive, and i mean the whole screen. the unit didnt evne come with a remote b/c u dont need one. but i got one anyways.

alpine remotes are much stronger than pioneer ones, my alpine works through the tints of a closed window away from the vehicle, pioneer could not do that, which sucks if u try to use it for an spl comp.

both pioneer decks i had went crazy after some spl'ing in the jeep. same happened to my buddy's unit. as soon as u start doin over 145 the deck goes insane. it wouldnt turn off, it wouldnt let me adjust the volume, it would not accept the signal from the remote, it pretty much would go out of control, the screen itself would shut off as well. Its like the deck is off but its still spinning the cd and sending the signal to your amps. Now imagine this happening when u are outside of the vehicle and play your system at full till and u loose control of your deck....$5000 woth of subs and amps can be destroyed all in one shot. the only way to turn off the deck would be to turn off the car. this is the problem pioneer could not 'duplicate' when i gave it for warranty. they claimed it was my faulty harness........yah right. two diff decks same problem AND my buddy had same deck and identical problem with his when his spl went over 145 or so. b/c of this problem he lost a pair of $2000 subs, he was outside of the car while tesing for spl, gave it a full out burp and when he tried to stop/pause the deck it would not accept any commands from the remote or even the face plate.......his subs turned into paper weight in the matter of 30 seconds.

it took pioneer 3 weeks (and i live next to their service center here in richmond hill so there is no shipping time, i dropped it off in person) to tell me that they cant fix it!!!!!

i sold the deck the way it was to some guy and guess what????? same problem, he tried to warranty it and again pioneer sais they cant duplicate the problem and just blamed his faulty wiring.....mean while this was in a totally diff vehicle with a brand new pioneer harness (i kept my old one and it was NOT faulty)

well i had the 6500 as well. and like yuli's mine went messed up HARD at 150db. actually the f-in unit itself was the reason my treo subs blew up!! the deck went into death match mode basicly (could not stop the burp) and by the time i managemed to get into my truck, and turn off the POWER (12 volt) to the deck it was too late. i had smoke coming out of my box! well the unit itself did not suffer any damage, but my equip did. stupid thing. i dunno what happened. but not an SPL deck, that's for sure.

there u guys have it.

Hardwrkr 12-10-2004 05:35 AM

First I've heard of this and i've seen the Pioneer screens in some loud cars as well. Interesting. Hopefully I won't have that problem.

And Pioneer Guy, the two best units Pioneer makes have 5v preouts.
