Deciding what brand of Audio Adapter/OnStar Interface

Hey Guys,
I have a 2004 Envoy XL SLT with OnStar/NON BOSE and am about to replace the HU with a Double Din DVD.

I have read all of the posts about these adapters here and am confused about what brand I should buy. Peripheral/PAC/Soundgate/Metra.....

I was just wondering if you guys could give any feedback about issues you may have had with the different adapters and which seems to be the "preferred" brand.

I have been reading about defective units and "cheap" sounding chimes and noise/feedback...and so on and was hoping you could help me decide which to buy before I fork out a $150 on one.

Thanks!

I used the Soundgate interface for my onstar/chimes.
The good news is that it worked, first try, and still works. I bought soundgate because it was the first unit available for my 06. Customer service was also good, they e-mailed me updated instructions.

I also have a PAC SWI-ALP and it worked at first, but seems to loose its programming. They've told me to try moving the power input so its direct from the battery, so maybe that'll fix the problem.

Can't comment on the others, haven't tried them. Good Luck.

Thanks Tom.F.1.,
This is exactly the feedback I am looking for. I was leaning towards the soundgate also......because it has the chime without a separate module. But I heard about poor sound quality and thoiught I should ask around before I regret my decision over $50.

Sound wasn't so good with only one speaker. It's adjustable, so i turned it up but it went into clipping. I added the optional second speaker and now onstar sounds fine. The chimes are too low (the stereo's kinda loud), but i just found out i can adjust that in the car. Guess I gotta get out the manual...
