Deck Install

Hey guys, just joined thought this would be the best place to ask soo, my buddy has a 2002 alero and hes trying to install a deck in it and stupidly i tell him ive installed a couple so id help him out. Well the first question i have is, the theftlock system i believe is built into the deck so how would i be able to re wire it so it still allowed you to turn the ignition, also i read that it has a "monsoon" amp in the trunk, he doesnt want to spend much so he wants it hardwired instead of getting the fancy lil harness n all that so if its possible to do without that any help/tips would be awsome.

My experience with cars with "Premium Sound System" tells me to gut everything and start new. I tried helping a friend with a 2000 Lexus (Nakamichi system) and it was and is a nightmare. You must also understand how the factory amplifier works, what are the input wires, if it needs a high/low signal to operate the amp.

Metra lists this car as needing a GMOS wire harness to retain factory warning chimes... if you can live without them, you may get away with a 70-2003, some will say its okay, others will argue not to.

Then like you say there is a factory amp somewhere, so should you run HI/LOW into the amp. I'm sure someone else will chime in, but it may not be a cake walk and like DUKK says...

Yeah im aware of the chimes needing the harness but he says he doesnt need it, just called a few shops for him and Powerline in guelph quoted $120 to get it done so i think that would be his best bet instead of rewiring the whole thing, i like to help out friends n all but that only goes so far :P

It would be less painful to just pay someone to do it, these things get regretful awfully fast

^ No doubt. It's just not worth the headache. In the last 5 years I have done exactly two deck side jobs and both were for very close friends that weren't going to a retail location anyway.
