I just installed my deck again tonight, and for some odd reason, whenever i turn my car lights on the music stops playing? the deck doesnt lose power because it stays lit up and you can see the play time keep going. then when i turn the lights back off the music starts again?

im thinking its just a loose connection, but its too dark and late to check so im just leaving it till tomorow. anybody know if this is something other than bad connection type problem? deck is a 9815.

It sounds like your illumination wire (from the car) is shorting out against something.

ya thats what i was thinking. i guess ill just check it out tomorow.

Are you using the internal amp? Are you getting sound from all speakers when the lights are off?

actually no im not, i only have two speakers installed, and they are the front two, and only the left one works. and i am using hte internal amp.

Then you probably have one of the wires for the right out-put connected to the illumination wire. When the lights turn on it sends power to the amp out-put. Naturally the HU doesn't like this, and the internal amp protects itself by shutting down.

Do you have the proper HU Harness (the one that came in the box with the HU)?
Do you have the proper vehicle adapter Harness. If no for either question, uninstall immediately and purchase the right harnesses.

yeah taht actually was the problem, got it fixed up though. you see, i cant use a harness for my stereo because the previous owner (or the guy at the shop where i got my first cd player installed) cut the factory harness off. so i just have to splice the wires from the headunit harness to the wires in the car.

it was a bitch the first time figuring out what all the wire colors were.

Been there done that. If you do an install like that again there are 2 helpful tools:
(1) A multimeter - helps identify power, ACC, light, and ground wires
(2) A AAA Battery. When trying to figure which are speaker wires. You'll hear a "click" when you connect it to the wires. The speaker that "clicks" is naturally the one you found for the wires. If the cone moves out, the + of the batery is the + of the speaker etc.
