Door speakers

I have some alpine 6.5's and I want to put them in my doors, but there is no holes or wires were do I start, and before anyone suggests taking it to a pro I want to do this myself, for my own piece of mind.

Bingo. If you have an 80s Camaro or Cavalier with power windows, I pity you.

HAHA, of course having an 80's camaro/trans am requires that you have a mullet of some length. Then you can seek pity from everyone, not just car audio enthusiasts

I had a 93 Sunbird and had a couple kick panels made up for 5 1/4 speakers which worked out very well. Sounded great and still left me with ample leg room. If I recall it was a standard transmission as well.

If i remember correctly the sunbird had dash mount speakers, or am I thinking of one of my other cars?

speaker pods (boxes) usually made out of fiberglass that attach side of the interior where your feet are on both the driver and passenger side. Search kick panels on google and you will see pics.

If you have experience with vehicle fabrication it isn`t a tough job, just time consuming. Don`t rush anything. You will most likely need to build the speaker out from the door a bit as the magnet will hit the window. Run the speaker wires through the door grommet. Make the door build outs out of fibreglass or wood and fix them to the door panel, and to the door metal from behind with screws or bolts (measure the bolt or screw lengths so they do not go through the front or leave marks when you tighten them). Also, remember to check the clearance between the dash and the door panel when the door is closed (so the door closes and does not hit the speaker or baffle against anything leaving marks etc). Also remember to measure that the window crank is still functional and does not get your fingers pinched between the new panel and itself.

These are just a few of the many things that you will encounter doing this job. If I may also suggest, plan out every step and have everything ready to go (tools/parts/etc) before you start. Again I must stress that you take your time and measure everything, twice (it will show if you don't).

Good luck

Forget about the doors - they are a nightmare in that car. Plus, that car is dead easy for kickpanels. You can literally cut a flat plate of wood that goes diagonally across the corner from the door opening to the firewall. Grab some cardboard and a razor knife and make it fit. From memory, you'll wind up with a big solid U shape that's about 8" across.
