Finally!!

2007 "Laser Blue" Chevrolet Cobalt SS (not supercharged tho)

It's Mine! In my driveway! After talking to Rob at forbidden audio, i've decided on a system(in order of purchasing):

Eclipse CD32100 Cd Player
Aux105 Cable For Sat radio
IPC106 IpoD interface
Digital Designs M1A Amp
Eclipse SW7200 12'' X 2 Subwoofers

I'm SO excited that i want to begin building my box. The sub and the amp are going to look perfect together

Like it was ment to be!

Now i'm curious on how i will build the box. I need some help deciding.

Advantages and Disadvantages of a ported box?
" " of a sealed box?

Will a box that is not..a "box" effect SQ? (I want to have the subs angled out and up of my trunk and have the amp between them) If so, is it really noticible?

I will need help figuring out what volume the box needs to be. But i am pretty sure Rob said he would help me with that. Eventually i am going to upgrade my components but what i have right now (the stock pioneer system) is not bad.

In the cobalts the batteries are in the trunk. How do i go about wiring my amp to it? What gauge wiring? Do i need any additional hardware?

I am brand new to Car Audio, so i need whatever tips you have.

Do a search on ported vs sealed. It seems like this topic is covered weekly.

Not trying to discourage you, but maybe you should consider getting some help or paying someone to do the install.

The only reason I say this is because I would hate you see you wreck your new car somehow.

Here is a good site to help you out with learning about car audio. Basic Car Audio Electronics

As for wire size, I would go with at least 2 gauge although I'm not sure how large the terminal inputs are for your power and ground wires.

Run a wire from the + post on your battery to the + terminal on your amp. Run a wire from the - terminal of your amp to a bare metal area of the chassis of the car (or to the battery - post since it is close to the amp in your car).

MAKE SURE YOU FUSE THE + FROM YOUR BATTERY. This wire can ground out which would cause excessive current drawing which makes the wire hot. It could get hot enough to light your car on fire and burn it to the ground. Put the fuse within 12" of the battery post (the closer the better). A 160A fuse should do the job for your setup (based on 14V peak, 2000W peak power output and a 143A max draw).

Run a remote wire (18 gauge should work) from the cd player to your amplifier remote terminal (tells the amp when to turn on).

Run RCA cables from the outputs on the back of the deck to the amplifier inputs.

Run speaker wire from the terminals of your amp to your subwoofer (ensure proper wiring or you may wreck your sub/amp. This means the proper impedance load to the amplifier).

Its definitely nice to have help during an install.

I should also add that for speaker wire, 10 gauge would be ideal but you could pull off 12 gauge if you had too.

So i built a new box for my stock sub. Just to..practice haha. its 14+18+10. Made from 3/4 MDF. A 10'' sub has a displacement of... .05'' right? I belive that is like ..9.65 cubic feet? I don't know if that is too big, but the recomended size for the lowest class pioneer sub was 0.65 - 1.25 cu. ft.

A sealed box of this size would ve just over 1 cube. Here, use this, it will help you with box size.
