Exclamation First 2 amp install...Please Help!

Hello

First some background...
I have some experience installing car stereo's back when I was younger. I installed my first stereo as well as a few of my friends..then as time went on and cars/equipment got wrecked I didn't have a stereo for a couple years, as I was between cars and blah blah.

I've now got a car I plan on keeping for awhile so have been slowly acquiring pieces to a new system when I've spotted good deals or had money etc. This past weekend I purchased the last piece and now I'm ready to install.

My Car:
2000 Acura el

The Stereo:
Deck: JVC Aresenal KD-A815
Front: 6.5'' Polk Audio DB 651's
Rear: 6.5'' Polk Audio DB 651's
Subs: 2 10' JL w0v2's in a ported enclosure
Amp1: 4 channel Sony Amp XMZR704 70rms x 4 to power the Polks
Amp2: 2 channel Concept amp for the JL's

(I was trying to keep cost as low as possible while maintaining as good of quality as possible, I think I've done ok. what you think of the stereo?)

Now the problem is I have never installed a 2 amp system. I tried to obtain some help from Audio Xpressions when i was there but they only said I would need to buy 2 amp kits and that everything else was the same. Which I did.

Do I just run 2 power cables to the battery with inline fuses for each? Then i got thinking and recalled Distro. blocks...and got thinking that is what I actually need isn't it? did I need the 2 amp kits? is one way better than the other 2 power cables or use a distro block?

Do I..or Should I get a Cap? since there will be 2 amps drawing power now and almost all systems I've had or seen before have lights dim with just one amp...will it by much worst with the 2? I've heard Cap's are basically useless?

Also this may be a stupid question but for the 4 6.5'' speakers I wire them to the 4 channel amp and then just the RCA's goto the deck? same with the subs? So I wouldn't need a wiring harness or anything like that? Or do i need to wire the speakers to the deck and amp?

If someone could please help me out, and if there's any other tips/things I should be aware of that is different for a 2 amp install than 1 please let me know

Thanks!

Shinobi

You could use 2 wire kits( one for each amp) but you dont need to. I would just use one tho, How much amp power are you running? Anything from 600watts down you can use a single 4awg power wire from battery to amp location then use a 1 in 2 out distro block to run to your amps(no need to fuse).
Then run your rcas and remote(amp turn on lead) from your deck and your done.

And as far as the cap is concerned, dont bother.... There are better ways to deal with dimming lights if you run into that problem.

Only 1 reply? I recall this place being much more helpful

Well the 4 channel amp is 700w alone. plus the concept amp.
It's likely closer to 1000-1100 watts.

The kits i have are 4awg power wire

You really don't need any more replies. Sunfired answered the question correctly. Was there anything else you were wondering about?

Do you have 1800 watts rms or peak? if it's rms, then run a single 0 awg power wire to a distro block (fused within 12" of the battery) and 4awg to each amp (fused at the distro block to ensure protection should one of your 4awg shorts(so you don't get 0awg current running through a 4 awg wire)...just get a fused distro block), then ground to good location with 4awg each. A cap can help, but you're better off doing the big 3 (do a search). Lastly, wire the speakers with at least 16 awg wire from the amp, the rca's go to the deck and you do not need any special harnesses for that part, but you may for your deck install.

Just so you know that sony amplifier is putting out like 300w (rms) total at the most.

XM-ZR704 | ZR Series 4/3/2 Channel Amplifier | Sony | Sony Style USA

And the highest powered 2 channel Conept amp I could find has about the same power. 300w (rms) or less total.

Concept HA-902 Car Audio 2-Channel Speaker / Sub Amplifier

Just wanted you to know what power you are dealing with. These are the numbers that matter when you are figuring out your wiring requirements.

Hope that helps,
Brad

How are those speakers? I was thinking of picking up the db6501 component versions?
