First install. Please help.

Hi guys, here's what I have (delivered tomorrow)-

1. Infinity Kappa 692.9I - link
2. Infinity Kappa 682.9cf - link
3. Polk Audio db521 - link
4. Eclipse CD5030

I was wondering if I could run all the speakers with the deck alone, as I can't afford an amp right now. I have a feeling that the 692.9i's will be too much. If that's the case, should I install them when I get an amp? Looking at getting the Alpine PDX-4.100 for the system. Will this amp do?

Nothing special so be gentle, it's my first system

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

No I didn't hear them, I purchased them online. I was going by the many very positive reviews.

Why, aren't they well regarded around these parts ?

Thank you

to me they sound harsh TO ME. go at future shop to hear them if u have one near and then u could make ur choice.

not everyone thinks they are hard on the ears but they are bright speakers and not everyone ears can take it. thats y i highly suggest to hear them first before u order and do a possible purchase mistake

6 pairs of speakers on one HU... it can be done but your volume would be limited and the internal amp is 4 channel so your going to piggy back (4 speakers on one stereo channel) the output. I have lived for EXTENDED periods on HU power it isn't that bad but it can be bettered by external amps

remember if you piggy back to series connect the speakers

Thanks John. Any thoughts on the Alpine PDX-4.100? I would assume it will sufficiently drive my four Kappa speakers? Is it a good amp for the money? I have heard some good things about it.

Thanks again,
Cam

I would say it makes sense to run both "rear" sets in series, it would definetly enhance the front stage, but it will definetly limit volume potential... Parallel would most likely shut the deck down before it would do anything. The PDX amps work well and have a small footprint, so considering the rest of the gear, it will work very well and still leaves some room for future improvements on the speaks. Running the fronts at 4ohm and the rears series'd (not a word, I know) at 8 ohm on the PDX would simply increase how loud you can jam the system at. With the PDX, the fronts would be a bit over their power handling but with caution and control, you could make it sound good in there reliably.

The Kappas are 2 ohm speakers, so should the wiring be reconsidered? I won't be installing them until I get the amp.

I'm also currently running the Polk's off the deck which I would assume will be okay permanently?

Thanks
