I think I've blown one of my rear mid speakers in my Golf. Oh well, this is just a kick in the butt to change the factory crap anyways.

I've consulted the crutchfield web page and they've suggested that my door component speakers are 6-3/4". Can anyone verify that? I'm driving a 2002 Golf.

Furthermore, I'm going to be ambitious and try to do this myself. Now remember, I simply want to replace them, no external crossovers or coaxials. I imagine that the factory grill is simply removeable by pulling it right off. I couldn't imagine it being glued in and there are no visible screws holding it down. Could someone verify that I can just pull the grills off the speakers and then take the speakers out? I don't want to go ripping stuff out and then not being able to put it back together.

Thanks for the input.

I have had all my factories in my 2001 GTI replaced by 6 1/2 " . However , the factory speaker comes in it's own plastic baffle setup so maybe that's where they get that extra lenght .

I'd just call up the nearest VW dealership , perhaps the place you pruchased your VW at and find out !!!

it is true they are 6 1/2 inch but they cannot be deep after market speaker. the factory speakers have small magnets that only allow for up to 2 inch of depth. try to buy a speaker that has a neo magnet.
