Help!!!

Hey guys,

I just installed a new 13av.2 sub from elemental designs along with a nine.1 that I bought no more than 2 weeks ago. I set up everything without the lid to see if all was well and that I was getting some subwoofer throw. I wired the subwoofer to 1-ohm and wam! I had little subwoofer throw. I honestly don't know what else to do. I hooked one of the terminals up so that it would be seeing 2-ohms and it seemed to be playing better than hooking two of the terminals up at 1-ohm. If anyone could help me it would be great! I just don't want to close the lid on the box as I hooked up some wiring to a terminal cup. If anyone has any ideas why this is happening let me know. Also, I am getting an incredible amount of dimming and I have the big 3 done. I had the car off and on when doing my testing and was still seeing the same results.

Sounds like you had one voice coil wired out of phase, reverse the leads on one of them and see what happens.

I just followed what was on the subwoofer. Black to black (negative) and red to red (positive)

Easy to cross wires and there is no guarantee that they were labelled properly either.... perhaps you might even have a bad sub.... you can always test each coil with a simple battery test to see what happens. Leave the speaker wire attached to one coil, touch the other end to a small AA battery and the speaker is going to pop and the cone will move one way or the other. Touching the + terminal on the battery to the + terminal on the sub is going to cause the cone to move out, if the + on the battery is connected to the - terminal on the sub it is going to move in. Do not leave the battery connected, just a small touch to see which way the cone moves. Repeat for each coil.

I have seemed to pass the battery test. I just checked it. Any other suggestions?

Did you meter the coils of the sub?

That is what I was wondering. How in the heck would I go about doing that?

You would need a multimeter....

Set the Multimeter to the lowest resistance (ohm) setting, and place the leads in the + and - terminals of one coil. Record the reading - it should be in the range of 1.6 - 2.4 for a 2 ohm coil. Do it again for the next coil. If the readings are substantially different, like one coil reads 1.6 and the other 2.4 then you've got a dead or dying coil.
