Help with Engine noise on 2500-300rpms
I have made a change in my system recently that has introduced some engine noise at higher rpms.
pre-noise:
Stock HU-> Cache COE6 LOC -> JL Amps Daisy chained.
Noise:
Stock HU-> Cache COE6 LOC-> AudioControl EQS-> JL amps all seperate inputs.
Of course the EQS is the culprit, but here's where I think I've made my mistake.
I believe the COE6 isn't the issue as it's levels have not been touched. I'm betting that when I put the EQS in, since it added another stage of attenuation, made this issue come in to light.
I'm betting when I put it in-line, I dropped the amps attenuation to their lowest, put the EQS at 75% and then raised them. What I probably should do however is lower the output side of the EQS, and simply raise the amps.
Does this make sense?
I have a feeling I raised the noise-floor substanitally with the EQS in line now, so I probably should lower their outputs to keep the noise floor down, and then raise the amps so I'm amplifying a lower noise-floor signal better.
Sound right?
Thanks!

Give it a try, makes sense in theory to me. Whether or not it will work I guess we'll see after you try it. At any rate sounds like a perfect place to start. Was the EQS bought new or used? If you bought it used do you know the person you got it from? Any known problems with it previously?
